Happy Valentines Knitters,

I want to share with you the wonderment that happened when Marge, Marlene and I donated 5 of our blankets to the Women’s Shelter. The ladies there were in awe at the beauty and the amount of effort that went into our blankets. They couldn’t get over the fact that we showed up with blankets just when they had put out a call for more blankets.

My husband wanted to show his support to our effort by writing an article to accompany the photo of our donation. (He also makes the posters for the knitting circle.) I’ve included his article in this letter. Look for the photo and article in the Morningstar.

Thoughts of Christmas Future
Patti from the Chamber has invited us to be a part of the Christmas tree display that happens throughout the month of December. So clip or save those patterns for knitted/crocheted decorations, hats, mitts, booties, or anything else that would look interesting hanging on a tree. We will discuss this more as we get closer to Christmas.

Knitting Magazines
Thinking of throwing away some old knitting magazines? I will take them. Call Judy 546-9475.

Need Yarn
Are you running low on yarn for your squares (or panels)? Come to a Knitting Circle meeting or give Pat (546-2465) a call as she has been storing yarn for us.

Knitting Circle Extends Warm Welcome
A local group of dedicated knitters known as the Knitting Circle Armstrong went into action when they heard that the Vernon Women’s Shelter was opening. “Once our Circle knew the shelter was operational, we decided that our next blankets would find a good home there” said Judy Boling the Knitting Circle’s founder.
Judy continued,” We have been very pleased with the response from individuals anxious to donate squares or yarn, locally as well as outside of the area. People understand what we are trying to accomplish and are willing to lend a helping hand. We even recently received a parcel full of squares from a Delta knitter we have never met or talked to.”
There is much more than just time that goes into each blanket and it shows. “Kilometers of Caring is what we fondly refer to our hand made blankets as each is made up of forty-eight, eight-inch squares and uses almost two kilometers of yarn, and of course an abundance of love. Each blanket is a unique tapestry of colors and geometric patterns and designed to brighten someone's day.” Boling proudly adds.
And brighten them it does. When the blankets were recently presented to Rachel Oberle, the Women’s Shelter Coordinator, her first response was “What beautiful blankets. I’m a quilter and I know how much work goes into each one of these. We will immediately put them to good use.”
To find out more about what the Vernon Women Shelter requires, please contact Social Planning Council at 545-8572. If you want to participate in the blankets for charity program you can by donating yarn or eight-inch squares and dropping them off at these depots; The Never Ending Yarn shop in Vernon or the Armstrong Chamber of Commerce. The Knitting Circle Armstrong meets the 1st, 2nd, and 4th Thursdays of the month at 7 pm at the Armstrong Chamber of Commerce. Call Judy 546-9475 or Marlene 546-6325 for more information.

See you soon.
